Hands-Only Car Wash Impacted by COVID-19 Gives Discounted Full Service

Washing cars on the backside of YaYa’s Gas Station and Bodega Store was not just another hustle. It was the start of a new business idea that Andrea Evans and another family member began seven years ago.

Hands-Only Car Wash in Fayetteville, North Carolina, is open to the public and provides jobs to young men who reside in the area.

“We hire a lot of people, they don’t really have a lot going on, so they come out here to try to make some money because they have to feed their families,” said Evans

Currently, there are six employees at the car wash, and each worked on vehicles in successions. Their routine requires pre-rinse known as a foam bath, micro towel hand washes, micro towel drying, spray wax, clean full wheel tire, and windows.

After the exterior cleaning, the vehicles’ interior took a lot of time and detail. The interior guy vacuumed then cleaned and polished dashboards and seats.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic struck the US, Evans and his cousin were negotiating with a property owner to purchase a building then the economy slowed down and forced them to change how they did business.

“We are in negotiations to purchase a building, and we intend to stay in this location,” said Evans.

North Carolina, Governor Roy Cooper, has scaled back fully opening businesses for the next 5 weeks based on the COVID-19, “Safer At Home Phase 2.”

Testing Information for Cumberland County website current reports noted over 3,000 COVID-19 cases and 51 deaths in the county.

“Well, with COVID-19, many people don’t have money to spend to wash cars. That’s why we wash vehicles at a discounted rate of $10 exterior and $20 for both in and out.”

Although Hands-Only Car Wash competes with many automatic car wash companies in the area, they are confident about their service and customer satisfaction.

“A lot of times, the car wash around here charges $21 to go through the tunnel. They don’t give you the full service to wash,” said Evans. “We do it all here, so come see us. We are the best in the city; we don’t say so the customers tell us that.”
